Epoxy flake flooring — also called full flake, color chip, or decorative chip flooring — is a system where decorative vinyl flakes are broadcast into a wet epoxy or polyaspartic base coat, then sealed with a clear topcoat. The result is a durable, textured, richly colored surface that's one of the most popular choices for residential garages across Tampa Bay.

The flakes come in dozens of color blends and multiple sizes — from fine 1/16" chips to bold 1/2" chips. When broadcast to "full rejection" (meaning no base coat is visible between flakes), the floor takes on a rich, carpet-like appearance that's both beautiful and highly practical.

Flake flooring hides everyday imperfections — dust, minor stains, tire marks, and small blemishes are far less visible than on a solid-color floor. 1. Surface Preparation: We diamond-grind the concrete with HEPA-filtered dust extraction to create the proper profile for adhesion.

2. Moisture Testing & Crack Repair: We test the slab for moisture and repair any cracks or joints before coating.

3. Primer Application: A penetrating primer seals the concrete and blocks moisture vapor.

4. Base Coat: A colored epoxy or polyaspartic base coat is applied — the color of the base shows between flakes for light broadcasts.

5. Flake Broadcast: Decorative vinyl flakes are broadcast by hand or machine to your chosen coverage level — from light speckle to full rejection.

6. Topcoat: A clear UV-stable polyaspartic or aliphatic urethane topcoat seals and protects the flakes, providing a high-gloss or satin finish.

7. Final Inspection: We walk the floor with you, confirm the finish meets your expectations, and provide maintenance instructions.

Full Flake (Full Rejection): Flakes are broadcast so densely that the entire base coat is covered — the floor appears as a rich, multi-colored, carpet-like surface. This look hides the most imperfections and provides maximum slip resistance. It's the most popular choice for residential garages.

Light Broadcast (Speckle Finish): A colored base coat is applied, then flakes are broadcast moderately so the base color shows through between flakes. This creates a two-tone, speckled look that's more subtle and contemporary. It's a popular choice for commercial spaces and modern homes.

How long does epoxy flake flooring last? With a proper base system and UV-stable topcoat, flake flooring lasts 15–20 years. The multi-tone surface also hides normal wear, so the floor looks great for the full lifespan.

Is flake flooring slippery when wet? The flake texture provides natural slip resistance, and we can add aluminum oxide to the topcoat for even more traction. It's significantly less slippery than a solid-gloss floor when wet.
